E.g. on the OSB download page, we find the comment \u201cOracle<br \/>\nService Bus Size: 1.06 GB, Check Sum:1490338751\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\nThis check<br \/>\nsum is generated by the old unix tool cksum, which protects for accidental<br \/>\ncorruption during transport, however is not cryptographically secure. See <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cksum\">http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cksum<\/a><br \/>\nfor more details.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\nOn Windows<br \/>\nwe can use cksum.exe which is included in win32 tools from the project win-bash<br \/>\n(<a href=\"http:\/\/win-bash.sourceforge.net\/\">http:\/\/win-bash.sourceforge.net\/<\/a>).&nbsp; Calculating the check sum for the OSB<br \/>\ndownload on my machine yields:<\/div>\n<div style=\"background: silver; border: solid windowtext 1.0pt; mso-border-alt: solid windowtext .5pt; mso-element: para-border-div; padding: 1.0pt 4.0pt 1.0pt 4.0pt;\">\n<div class=\"ConsolentextCxSpFirst\" style=\"background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;\">\nD:17Toolsshell.w32-ix86&gt;<b>cksum.exe<\/b><br \/>\nD:\u00001Downloadsofm_osb_generic_11.1.1.6.0_disk1_1of1.zip<\/div>\n<div class=\"ConsolentextCxSpLast\" style=\"background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;\">\n<b>1490338751<br \/>\n1149088683<\/b> D:\u00001Downloadsofm_osb_generic_11.1.1.6.0_disk1_1of1.zip<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\nThe first<br \/>\nnumber is the CRC value which matches the value from the oracle website and the<br \/>\nsecond value is the size in bytes.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Calculating Checksums for Oracle Downloads It took me quite a while to figure out which check sum algorithm Oracle is using on some of its download pages.
